Abstract
Financing healthcare delivery in the country continues to remain an unsurmountable challenge to the economy and a hindrance to equal access to healthcare services of high standards. Several pioneering efforts to address this challenge characterize the post-independence history of Kenya. In 1965, the then Government took a ground breaking step on the continent in financing health care delivery through the introduction of a mandatory Health Insurance for all employed persons earning more than Kshs 1,000 per month.
