Guidelines for the Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis B and C Viral Infections in Kenya

Abstract
Hepatitis is a general term referring to infl ammation of the liver. Viral hepatitis refers to hepatitis resulting from a variety of diff erent viruses such as Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E. Chronic hepatitis remains a signifi cant health problem in Kenya; the region being classifi ed as a high prevalence zone. Morbidity and mortality rates are high and this is compounded by low disease awareness, absence of treatment protocol and the virulent nature of the disease itself.
